At the Forefront of Pharmacy
At Apothecary By Design, our commitment to patient care extends to the investment we make in training the next generation of pharmacists.
Specialty pharmacy is one of the fastest-growing areas of the pharmacy profession—and an area where more and more new clinicians are seeking dedicated, real-world training.
So ABD has teamed with the University of New England to create one of the few community residency programs in the country to focus on specialty pharmacy in the first postgraduate year.
The ABD-UNE PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency in Specialty Pharmacy allows pharmacists to gain extensive management and clinical experience in every aspect of specialty pharmacy services. All in the vibrant, coastal city of Portland, Maine.
The program builds on Pharm.D. education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for PGY2 pharmacy residency training.
Graduates of the ABD-UNE PGY1 residency will be trained to serve as experts in the field of specialty pharmacy, ready to:
- Provide ongoing disease management for patients with complex, chronic conditions including infertility; organ transplantation; infectious diseases, such as hepatitis C; and inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease
- Develop and implement didactic and lab-based educational material in an academic setting
- Design and present sophisticated outcomes analyses that demonstrate the value of today’s specialty pharmacy services
The University of New England College of Pharmacy is a leading educator of the next generation of pharmacists. Established in 2009, the college is among 27 other healthcare programs offered at UNE. The college is dedicated to educating pharmacists who will thrive in interprofessional, team-based patient care environments, and who are committed to serving their communities.
